Binary OWL

چکیده
This paper presents a binary format for both storing OWL ontologies and describing changes in OWL ontologies. The format is designed to be a fast to parse and serialise format. It is intended as a low level storage and transmission mechanism rather than an end user exchange syntax. Software to parse and serialise binary OWL has been implemented in the form of OWL API parsers and renderers. Some initial experiments seem to indicate that a Binary OWL ontology document can be parsed roughly an order of magnitude faster than the corresponding RDF/XML document.

A Reusable Ontology for Fluents in OWL
A critical problem for practical KR is dealing with relationships that change over time. This problem is compounded by representation languages such as OWL that are biased towards binary relations, even when the relationships that vary with time are binary. We discuss several approaches to this problem in OWL, and focus on the advantages of a four-dimensionalist (perdurantist) solution, which a...
متن کاملVisualising Semantic Coupling among Entities in an OWL Ontology
An ontology consists of a finite set of entities and relationships among these entities. Relationships in an OWL ontology are given by the object properties, defined as a binary relation between classes in the domain with classes in the range. These relationships define semantic coupling among classes. This paper formally define some metrics to measure semantic coupling among classes in OWL ont...
متن کاملExtending DL Reasoning Support for the OWL Datatyping (or "Why Datatype Groups?")
The OWL [2] datatype formalism (or simply OWL datatyping) presents some new requirements for DL reasoning services, in terms of semantics (to allow the use of so-called 'un-supported' datatypes), expressive power (to support enumerated datatypes) and datatype construction mechanism (both datatypes and datatype expressions). On the other hand, OWL datatyping is expected to be extended to include...
متن کاملTerminological Reasoning in SHIQ with Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams
We present a new algorithm for reasoning in the description logic SHIQ, which is the most prominent fragment of the Web Ontology Language OWL. The algorithm is based on ordered binary decision diagrams (OBDDs) as a datastructure for storing and operating on large model representations. We thus draw on the success and the proven scalability of OBDD-based systems. To the best of our knowledge, we...
متن کاملtOWL: Integrating Time in OWL
The Web Ontology Language (OWL) is the most expressive standard language for modeling ontologies on the Semantic Web. In this chapter, we present the temporal OWL (tOWL) language: a temporal extension of the OWL DL language. tOWL is based on three layers added on top of OWL DL. The first layer is the Concrete Domains layer, which allows the representation of restrictions using concrete domain b...
